1997 Sportster® XL883

This 1997 Harley-Davidson Sportster XL883 is now going into it 16th year and is a great example of why they became so popular. It has only 16,474 miles on its odometer and is just one very basic no-frills motorcycle. We just completed a full 15,000 mile service on this Sporty and it is ready for its new owner. The previous owner(s?) added all kinds of accessories to make this XL883 more desirable. A Memphis Shades windshield tops the list in my opinion, but other eye-catching and sensible upgrades are: the pillion seat and rear foot pegs, padded passengers back rest/luggage rack, rear tail lights relocation (to make room for throw over saddlebags). The throw over saddle bags that you see in the pictures might not make the cut, I haven't decided. I was very surprised to find a Mikuni carb hiding behind the Kuryakyn air cleaner. 2002 Sportster® Custom XL1200C

The second thing that stands out on this 2002 Harley-Davidson XL1200C is its paint job. The colors are Real Red/Diamond Ice. This is a striking combo and is quite rare. This is a Sportster that should be inspected up close. And what is the first thing, you ask? That's easy, it is the condition of the bike itself. It looks much newer that its mileage would suggest. Its optional equipment list is basic but includes all the right stuff. My favorite is the upgrade to Screamin' Eagle II mufflers and a high flow air cleaner. These mufflers sound just great and I wish that our Govt would allow Harley to continue to produce them. The second upgrade is a padded passengers back rest - simple but effective or so my wife says when we ride on MY 2001 Sportster 1200 Custom. Which, I might add, is not as nice as this one. The XL1200C was the top of the Sportster food chain in 2002 and includes as standard equipment: a 21" front wheel and a 16 " one in the rear, forward foot controls, a custom seat, lots of chrome and a nice set of drag bars. Oh, I forgot to add that the hand controls were upgraded to Flamed units. 2005 Sportster® XL883R

This Harley-Davidson is a 2005 Sportster XL883 Roadster. It has had less than 8,600 miles roll underneath its chassis since it was born. The only real upgrade that I could find is a great sounding set of staggered drag pipes. It has had a matching factory tachometer installed from the XL1200R series. The best color for this (or any, but I digress) Harley-Davidson is "Racing Orange," factory racing colors. XL883R's give great fuel mileage and are blessed with dual disc brakes in the front. They have seating for two and have their foot pegs where they should be. The lean angle for an XL883R is 32 degrees left and right. They can be ridden around a corner in a spirited fashion without fear of dragging anything. If you are looking for a great all around Harley-Davidson at a price that should fit your budget, then look no farther. 2007 Sportster® XL1200R

This is an easy review to write. I OWNED a 2007 Harley-Davidson XL1200R. The color was also Pewter Pearl. It was a great bike. It was comfortable, handled well, got great fuel mileage and served as my commuter bike for one winter. I recall it fondly, which is not always the case. This Roadster has a nice array of upgrades which make it an outstanding value. It has a fob operated security system for your peace of mind (and your insurance company's). A quick release windshield graces the front end and allows for more hours of freeway touring before fatigue sets in. In the rear, a padded passengers back rest is installed with its matching chromed luggage rack. A engine guard is also present. The seat is a Harley-Davidson touring unit which I can not comment on as I liked the stock seat just fine. 2007 was the first year for fuel injection in the Sportster line and is an improvement over the former carb'd models. What I liked most about the Roadster model was its ample ground clearance, standard tachometer, good lean angle and the standard dual front disc brakes. All in all, this Harley has lots of go, stop, and lean and that's a good combo for any motorcycle. 2008 Sportster® Low XL1200L

There are only two features on this bike that differ from its factory set up. The first is a set of forward foot controls with Kuryakyn custom front foot pegs. The second is an engine guard that I hope that you will never have the occasion to use (except to mount highway pegs). There is a good reason that this model is called "LOW". The riders seat sits just 26.3 inches above the tarmac. This is the 1200 (the smaller motor is an 883cc) model. It has standard fuel injection and a 4.5 gallon fuel tank. There is plenty of room for two and it will cruise smoothly thanks to its rubber mounted V-twin motor which also offers great fuel economy at freeway speeds. 2009 Sportster® XR1200

Every now and again, Harley-Davidson comes out with a special model to commemorate their many racing successes and to cater to the performance addicts that are partial to their brand. The "XLCH, V-rod,"XLCR", "XR-1000" come to mind, among others. This 2009 XR1200 looks like an XR-750 flat tracker. The same bike that has been tearing up the American tracks since the '70s. The motor has been seriously upgraded compared to the regular run-of-the-mill Sporty. Its fuel injection is a down-draft unit; no more Ham Can on your right knee. The rear swing arm is also much lighter and stiffer. The wheels, both front and rear, are special to the XR1200. The speedo is now digital and much easier to read. A tachometer is standard equipment and quite useful. This model first came out in Europe in 2008 and was brought over to America due to the clamour of the Harley dealers. When they were first announced, I placed my order about 10 seconds later. My verdict after over 19,100 miles on my own XR1200 which has been used for everything from long distance touring to track days is that, in my not-to-humble opinion, this is the best Harley Davidson that I have ever ridden! The pictured Mirage Orange Pearl XR-1200 is stock. You must road test this machine. It rides like no other Harley. 2009 Sportster® Custom XL883C

This is a very nice 2009 Harley-Davidson Sportster Custom that is very much in demand in today's Used Motorcycle market. It is a basically stock XL883C, but it does have a couple of relevant upgrades. The stock air intake to the fuel injection has been upgraded to a Screamin' Eagle intake system. The mufflers have been upgraded to a set of custom units that have a much nicer sound. The remainder is just pure Harley Sportster Custom. Forward foot controls are standard on the "Custom" model along with a 21'' front tire, as is a slimmer saddle and a set of drag bars on risers. This Harley is painted Vivid Black, and its paint job looks showroom new. Lots of style, great fuel economy, agile handling and lots of room for two.
